Villages in Bergwelt

Scheffau

lies in the middle of the Wilden-Kaiser Valley and is part of Bergwelt (Mountain World) in summer and SkiWelt (Ski World) in winter.  Below is a profile of the resorts which go together to make up this exciting holiday destination.  You can be sure that your guide will take you to neighbouring villages on your travels through the region.

Brixen im Thale

Brixen, with it's stunning church is well worth a visit, especially if the circus is in town - which it is every summer.  Brixen lies in the Brixen Valley, which is over the hill from Scheffau.  Walkers and Mountain Bikers with MTS will be sure to find themselves at this village and it's best to bring bathers as Brixen has a mountain lake in which you can swim because the water quality is 'drinkable'.

Going

If you're going to Going make sure it's by bike or on foot and you visit the church and the Badesee which is a popular outdoor natural swimming pool. This village is typically Tirolean and development has been kept to a minimum.  MTS guests might also find themselves at the craft markets which are held here throughout the summer.  The Stanglwirt, just outside going, is also worth a visit - now a 5* hotel complex it hasn't had a closed day in at least a couple of hundred years.  The traditional architecture and ancient feel to the place make it a popular stop off point for coach parties, some of whom come to see the Lippizaner stud - the white horses of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.

Soll

This village is Scheffau's much larger neighbour and is better known to English guests.  The village centres around the crossroads where you can find the Postwirt Hotel and the village church.  Squash, tennis and crazy golf can be found here as well as the swimming pool complex but the real attraction in Soll at the moment is the HexenWasser or Witch's Water on the Hohe Salve which overlooks the town.  This is an innovative water based trail at the gondola middle station and guests on MTS Walking, Mountain Biking and Family holidays will surely find the time to visit Soll.  Details of Winter in Soll can be found in the Ski & Snowboarding section of our site.

Ellmau

This village lies at the other side of Scheffau and also has the well-known Kaiserbad and Wilden Kaiser Golf Club on it's doorstep.  To get to the top of the Hartkaiser Mountain you take the funicular railway, the only one in the area, from the top of which you can get a different view of Scheffau.  Between the two villages lies a panorama walk and if you go in the month of June you're sure to see the Lupin Pond - a magnificent sight - and all very natural.  For winter details see Ski & Snowboarding.
