SkiWelt
SkiWelt is Austria's largest inter-connected Ski arena and as such provides an ideal holiday destination for guests looking to enjoy ski, snow board or winter walking holiday variety, traditional hospitality and a winter wonderland in the heart of Europe.
The Kitzbuheler Alps form the basis for this ski area and SkiWelt is enclosed by the Wilder Kaiser valley on one side and the Brixental on the other. One ski pass covers the 250km of pistes, over 90 cable cars and lifts and in excess of 70 mountain huts in which to take a break.
Such a vast area provides a host of opportunities for all kinds of ski/board holidays and this area is known as a beginners and intermediates paradise. The added attraction of the award-winning children's ski school, Kinder Kaiserland, in Scheffau means that guests return year after year for their ski holiday in SkiWelt.
The area includes the villages of Scheffau, Soll, Ellmau, Going and Itter on the Wilder Kasier side and the villages of Brixen, Hopfgarten, Westendorf and Kelchsau on the Brixental side.
A combination of lift systems including gondolas, chair-lifts, drag lifts and a funicular railway means that guests can discover a different piste every day and touring the area is relatively easy as lift connections are excellent. Choose to zigzag between the valleys or explore each one separately - the choice is very definitely yours.
Lifts open at 8.30am each day of the ski season and close at 4pm, extending to 4.30pm towards the end of January.
The lifts are on a computerised system and it's possible to buy anything from a single journey ticket to a season-long pass. All lift cards over 3 days duration require a photo key-card pass(digital photo taken at the time of purchase) , which automatically allows you to pass through the turnstiles. These cards are readable from a ski-jacket pocket so there's no messing about when you're trying to get on. If you have a Swatch Access watch this can also be updated for your stay in SkiWelt.
Various routes are designated should you wish to see a bit more and these include the Salven Route, The Kaiser Route and the Westendorf Route. Instructions are given on the Piste Map.
For those who don't want to ski the area has much to offer - see our non-skiers page in the Ski Holidays section and for those who prefer to cross-country ski the area has a good range of langlauf trails as well as winter walking and tobogganing.
