Travel to Tirol

The Wilden-Kaiser Brixental area lies at the heart of Europe, which means it enjoys excellent road, rail and air connections.  Scheffau is centrally located in the Wilden Kaiser valley whilst St. Johann lies at it's southern end.  Germany and Italy are within easy driving distance and the cities of Salzburg, Innsbruck and Munich are easily reached by plane from the UK.

Flying to Tirol

Salzburg W.A.Mozart Airport is a favourite for guests traveling to this area and budget scheduled carriers offer regular daily services.  Charter flights are also available from many parts of the UK.  Transfer time is approximately 75 minutes from Salzburg to Scheffau and approximately 60 minutes to St. Johann.  It's possible to use your departure day to see the city of Salzburg before you fly home. Carriers: Hapag-Lloyd, Ryanair, SkyEurope, Tomfly.

Innsbruck Airport is approximately 60 minutes from Scheffau and 75 minutes from St. Johann.  Charter flights are available from many UK airports while schedule flights tie in with the various networks  of Tyrolean Airways, Austrian Airlines or KLM.  Check for afternoon/early evening departures if you want to tour the city before heading for home.

Munich Airport is approximately 90 minutes from Scheffau and just under two hours from St. Johann.  This airport offers perhaps the most flexible programme of scheduled flights including British Airways, EasyJet and Lufthansa/BMI.  Transfers take a little longer and incur a supplement but these are often off-set by lower prices on this busy route.  Direct flights are from Stansted, London airports, Manchester and Birmingham but it's possible to use most major UK airports and their attendant flight networks.

Whichever airport you choose, we're happy to arrange transfers or car-hire and advise on city sightseeing if you want to make the most of the time before you fly.

Rail Travel

Worgl and Kufstein are the main transit points for the area and are easily reached on the European rail network, usually via Munich.  If you'd like a more leisurely journey down to Tirol, with spectacular scenery and comfortable modern trains please ask and we'll be happy to help you plan your route and organise your tickets.

Road Travel

Activity holidays can be made even more interesting when you choose to drive to Tirol.  Stopovers en route let you do some sightseeing on the way down and visit places you want to see without taking too much time out to do it.

Road connections to this area are outstanding and the major European motorway network is just 15 minutes from resort.  Drivers should be aware of the 'vignette' charge for motorway usage in Austria and the new tariff for caravans and motor homes.  The motorway to Kufstein from Germany is toll free up to the Kufstein Sud junction - which is where you turn off for Scheffau and the Wilden Kasier Brixental area so you won't need a vignette unless you plan to explore further in your car.  Petrol is still under €1 per litre in Austria.

It's possible to drive from the Dutch, French or Belgian coasts in about 8 hours but we suggest you allow approximately 10 hours for your journey to Tirol.

Whichever route you choose we're happy to book ferries from Southern England or Hull and advise you on all aspects of driving in Europe, including route planning.
