Non-Ski Winter Holidays

Non-Skiers

Scheffau in winter doesn't mean all ski or board and a week in the mountains at this time of year makes for a relaxing break.

Days Out

Scheffau is situated approximately half-way between Kufstein and Kitzbuhel, ninety minutes from Salzburg and an hour from Innsbruck so a visit to one or more of these places is within easy reach and makes for an interesting day out.  Salzburg, with it's churches, architecture and Mozart connection or Innsbruck, the region's capital, are fascinating places to visit and contrast with the rural atmosphere in Scheffau itself.  See our Days Out page in the Activity Holidays section for more ideas.

Active Alternatives

Closer to home Scheffau has all the delights of a mountain village in winter.  Numerous walks through snowy woods or along the main routes in the valley provide ample opportunity to get out into the fresh air without being too active.  Horse drawn sleigh rides are close at hand and are another way to enjoy the wonderful winter scenery.  The nearby villages of Ellmau and Soll or towns of Kitzbuhel or St. Johann are also interesting places to visit.  Ice skating, curling, toboganning, ski and snowboard taster lessons are all available in and around Scheffau so you can still get active, even if you're not there for the skiing.

Rest & Relax

Cafes and guesthouses are always welcoming, providing various local specialities and warming drinks such as gluhwein (mulled wine) or the famous local schnapps.  It's a treat to sit out on the terrace at the top of the mountain and watch the skiing world go by.  If you're into people watching this is as good a place as any and you can also wander over to watch the children as they take their first steps in Kinder Kaiserland, receive a visit from Bobo the penguin and his ski friends or ride around on the Kinderland Express dragon.  It's a very different place to rest and relax.

Mind & Body

Wellness in the form of beauty treatments, massage, saunas, steam rooms and water spas are all available with the ever present mighty Wilden Kaiser mountains in the background.  A perfect place to get away.
